6.9.2022 Finding the right place (and being able to buy it): It is not so easy to deal with the disappointments that come up in the course of finding an investor. There are very good friends who suddenly back out (and not for the first time) because they suddenly want to focus on something else. But there are also problems among close relatives that were not foreseeable. It took me a while to process this, but I realise that it's actually not a sweet spot what we are working on and I'm sticking to it.
12.9.2022 Water: The wings of a hurricane from the Caribbean are currently showering Portugal with rain, and after the lack of heavy downpours in winter for the last two years, the water is very welcome here. The yellow-brown fields are slowly turning green and the level of the groundwater can probably regenerate a little. But to fill the large reservoirs, the rains of winter have to come again. But there was also such a time here 30 years ago, because when I asked Willi if he would buy land here again like he did then, I got a clear yes as an answer without hesitation. Willi makes wonderful pizzas every fortnight at his pizza party and knows the area well. Willi's land is on the same slope as the land that would be good for us, and it apparently still has enough water. And Willi also says that at the time he bought, there was also a general water shortage. But in the meantime there have been years when it rained like hell. The neighbours of "our promised land" say it has enough water and I have already seen at least three springs all flowing. And with the current drought, it would only have to be half a litre per minute for there to be over 720 litres (per spring) a day. However, I have not yet been able to take a measurement and our request to please expose the springs so that a measurement could be taken was rejected by the estate agent. Well, all say that the slope is rich in water. And the neighbours say something about "there's much more water there than at my place". And they themselves have no problem filling a swimming pool in the garden. But somehow, of course, we want to verify that. So we will somehow try to become smarter on this subject. And who knows; maybe there will be more wings of hurricanes in the future that can shower Portugal with rain ... Today I showed Iris the land who is interested in joining us. We walked up the slope and also looked from the ridge on the one hand to the Atlantic Ocean and on the other hand to the interior of the country. 16.9.2022 Teaming: But until we have THE investor, we can't secure the land. But we are on it and I have a good feeling that this is only a matter of time.
But it's not just about the land. We will use permaculture to grow healthy vegetables and fruits and we want to welcome many people of all ages to the site.
